For all heights, a non-slip rubber sole that provides grip on wet, slippery or uneven surfaces is ideal. Vibram soles or special profile soles are particularly recommended for optimal grip and stability in a wide variety of terrain.

Low-cut shoes are lightweight and offer excellent mobility, making them ideal for fast-paced missions. However, they offer less ankle protection and are less stable than mid- or high-cut models. They are good for dynamic, urban environments, but less so for challenging terrain.

Tactical shoes of all heights are often made of durable materials such as leather, nylon and synthetic fabrics that are water-repellent and breathable. The soles are usually made of non-slip rubber, often with special profiles for optimal grip in different environments.
