After each use, the drinking system should be thoroughly rinsed with water and dried. For a more thorough cleaning, there are special brushes for the hose and bladder. It is recommended to occasionally clean the system with a mild cleaning solution and let it dry completely to prevent mold from forming.

In cold temperatures, the water in the tube can freeze. Many hydration systems offer insulated tubes, and some have valve covers to prevent freezing. Additionally, you can blow the water back into the bladder after each drink to keep the tube empty.

It is not recommended to clean drinking systems in the dishwasher, as high temperatures and aggressive cleaning agents can damage the material. Hand washing is the safest method.
